What's blooming now?

Sasanqua "Dazzler" is blooming now and should for quite a while. I don't expect cold temps for at least a month or two.

Everything has tons of buds but Kanjiro! I was really expecting that to be a star based on all the things I've read here.

Hang in there with 'Kanjiro'. It blooms later than the others. If you need some reassurance, go to the Monrovia website and type in Kanjiro for some nice pictures and descriptions. Its hard to explain all the reasons why some camellias don't bud heavier some years. When they are young, and growing vigorously, that may actually inhibit bud development. They bud more heavily (producing seeds) when stressed -- whether by sun, dry weather, root constraint, there are many reasons. I have a couple young plants not budding this year too, I am scratching my head and all I can figure is it has been a good year (except when Ivan blew some over) and they are "too happy" growing vigorously and and putting out fewer buds. That will improve with age.

Hello. Hope y'all don't mind if I pop in. Yesterday my very first bud opened on sasanqua 'Cleopatra'! What a thrill!! This is the only camelia I have (at this time!!) and it's in its first year in my garden. I was so pleased to see one branch with buds...looking forward to more blooms!

Hi gone gardening! Glad you joined in. This forum is pretty slow until the cooler months when our camellias start to bloom and then it is exciting, isn't it?

How about a couple from a real northerner, in Michigan! I have 2 in bloom now, the sasanqua 'Rainbow' (fragrant too BTW) I got from Nuccio's, and a low growing double white Ackerman whose name I can't recall. I cheat -- these are in my greenhouse in the winter, though I think I will try this Ackerman outside eventually, especially since it consistently blooms early.

Forrest saw your pics, great plants! I really like Joe Nuccio. I like almost anything from Nuccios.

I have two open flowers on Kanjiro today. I must correct an earlier posting about my Shishigashira. I am certain now what I thought was Shishi is Sparkling Burgundy. I have another SB and the flowers of the two are identical. I am disappointed. While SB is a great plant, I did not want two of the same cultivar, plus, I'd like to have the lower growing Shishi anyway.

I've had a japonica blooming for awhile now but currently it is loaded with blooms. I thought it was a Carter's Sunburst but it doesn't look like the pixs. I guess it is a semi-double with dark pink and white blooms. When it stops raining I might take a pix if the blossums are still nice.

My Camellia granthamiana is wide open. This species shows very large, single irregular white petals. The center stamen area is about one inch in diameter, full of pollen. I am collecting the pollen.

C.puniceiflora displys a few very small and cute pink flowers.

One rather small yellow flower opened on the C.tunghinensis.

And a few flowers of C japonica.

Sugar Dream (from NZ) shows a few blooms, with not too bad sasanqua type fragrance.
