Hannah's Nursery in B'ham

Someone told me last year that this was a good nursery for camellias. I'm going to the beach in late Oct. and I hope to stop by and see what is available. Has anyone been recently? Also, how do I get there? I will be driving south on I-65.

I have not been to this nursery, but from their website, they seem to have a good selection. I plan on going there around October, so please let me know your opinions. I am particularly interested in purchasing a Sawada's Mahogany camellia from them (for a picture of this camellia, check out the wintergarden at www.greennurseries.com). Good luck and happy camellia hunting! |

Hey thanks! I didn't know they had a web site - can you give me the URL?

Yeah, their website is www.hannagardenshop.com. If there's a particular camellia you're looking for, you might want to call and verify they have it in stock. But, part of the fun is in the hunt!

Also, here's the link to the Green Nurseries site (it's a wholesale outfit) but it has wonderful camellia pictures, including pictures of some of the camellias for sale at Hanna's.

Several nurseries in the area sell Camellias from Green Nursery, including Hannah's, the Plant Odyssey, and Petals from the Past. Maybe others as well. They are constant temptations!

Hey LoraxDave, do you know if Green Nurseries sells to the public (if you pay a visit to their nursery). As an aside, I hope that Hurricane Ivan didn't destroy their camellia gardens. My fingers are crossed.

Hi glantern, I am not sure about Green Nurseries. I have never been there in person. I also hope their nursery came out okay following the storm. If it's in Mobile County, probably fared okay. Maybe not if in Baldwin County.

I was there last year and they have a gift shop and some camellias that the public can buy (but the selection is not that great). The girl who was working there told me that I could call ahead of time and they could get me a specific variety from their greenhouse (which was located elsewhere) and have it there for me when I arrived. Even though I didn't get to purchase any camellias, I enjoyed strolling through their display gardens. Most of the camellias there were huge and it was nice getting an idea of how they would eventually grow in the landscape.
