In SC can I plant camellias next to the dunes/ocean? I see them in the nurseries, but need some first hand advice. Thanks.

RE: Can I Plant Next to Dunes/Ocean?

Camellia are noted to have a low salt tolerance, both aerosol and soil borne. I would never recommend them for a dune-al planting, or ocean front situations. I have seen them do reasonably well in protected locations away from salt laden winds, however.

Are you looking for an flowering evergreen with salt tolerance, or do you have your heart set on Camellia?
