Sunburn

Several of the camellias I planted last fall had sunburned leaves this year. They have plenty of buds but should I move them in the spring to a shadier area? Or, is a little sunburn OK, and just disfiguring? Are they still adapting?

The problem plants are Pink Perfection (J), Carter's Sunburst(J), and Spring Festival (Hybrid).

Personally, I don't think that positioning plants in a location where they have to grow under stress is a very good idea. It is punishing for the plant. Camellias should have lush, dark green, lustrous leaves all year round, and be beautiful landscape features for you always...not just when they are blooming.

Thanks, Dorie. I hadn't really thought about that aspect much, and thought maybe they were still adapting. I'll move them in the spring after blooming.
