Cuttings of camellias

How hard is it to get cuttings started on Japonicas, any good advise would be appreciated.

Hello, Colleen. The link below, from the American Camellia Society's Website, discusses how to propagate by cuttings. Propagation by cuttings works best if done from soft wood cuttings taken no later than August. This time of the year you can try propagation by Air Layering. Grafting is another option but it works best from winter until spring. The American Camellia Society Website discusses all three methods.

You can always do any of the three methods whenever you want. The website indicates which method does best in what time of the year but that does not mean you will have zero success on other months. It just means that it will be more difficult. Under those conditions, I would suggest trying more just a single sample per method. For example, do 5-10 cuttings to improve the odds if you try this method after August.
