How often & how long water new camellias?

Posted by deltaskye 7 (N. VA) (My Page) on

Merrifield Gardens planted three camellias for me. The guys that did the planting said to water 3X weekly; the plant tag says 1X weekly. How frequently should I water (absent any heavy rains)?

Also, it's not mid-Oct.; when do I stop watering for the winter?

Thank you!

3X a week is excessive for October - maybe OK for July. I planted a new camellia on Saturday and soaked it & don't intend to water it again until this coming weekend. Once it stays consistently cool - perhaps sometime in November in northern Virginia, you can pretty much stop watering unless it is especially dry, which is rare in the winter in our region of the country.
