A friend just told me her favorite white camellia is "White Empress". Any one have any opinions or observations growing this variety in my area that you wish to share? If you agree it is a great one, any idea where to purchase 5 or 7 gal ones?

RE: White Empress

Yes and it is an early heavy bloomer, vigorous grower, very hardy, and a good choice for your need for "upright" plants. Likewise for its parent 'Lady Clare'(a/k/a 'Empress'), a pinkish red version of the same plant, you can see it here in the gallery. A source you might try for the size you need is Alden Davis of Davis Nursery in Coden, AL (wholesale only) who sells them B&B about 5 feet tall, field grown, great plants.
