| Almost all of them will get tall eventually. Go for one where the growth habit is described as 'upright'. If you're looking for specific suggestions, I am afraid mine might not do any good, me being in California, but 'Kickoff' a pink and red striped peony form is very nice, so is 'Herme' semidouble pink with white borders, 'Nuccios Carousel', pink semi double, or 'Margie' a white formal double. My grandmother had a roof high 'Mabel Bryan', along with 'Debutante' (but those were as wide as high.) It probably took them 20 years to get that high, mind you. All of those are japonicas. You could also buy one already trained as a tree, to get some height right off. Check around at your local nurseries, they will probably have limited varieties, and more of the older camellias, but those are often just as lovely. |

| C. japonica 'Professor Sargent' is upright. |
