Don't mind this time of year.

I used to hate the late Fall and early Winter, because the growing season was over. But I don't mind this time of year near as much since I've put in camellias!

Here are a few that are going gangbusters.

Lost the tag on this one. Home Depot special. Still a small plant.

I know what you mean.
I only have one fall bloomer though, the other 2 are late bloomers. She's real little but adorable.

She fruited at such a young age, see seeds?

I just love camellias! Can't wait til Feburary when the others bloom too!
Nice pics by the way.

RE: Don't mind this time of year.

Dave,
The one in the pic was a Home Depot camellia, I lost that tag unfortunately, so I don't know what kind it is.
I had another larger camellia planted next to it that I am hoping cross pollinated with it, (I can always hope anyway), that is a japonica called Sawada Dream, one of my favorites, which I recently moved under some tall pines.
I am storing the seeds in my freezer til next spring, then trying to grow them.
I guess I'll know if they crossed when the seedlings bloom in about 5 years. LOL.
Anyway, this small camellia is usually full of flowers to the point of not seeing the leaves.
I have another pink one planted in the front of my house, where it is shady and that will bloom in very beginning of March.
I love them because they are ever green also.
It's so depressing without flowers in the winter.
Try planting a sweet olive bush too, they are blooming right now and will thru the spring. The smell is heavenly when I go outside now to look at the camellias.
Your trees look so healthy, you sure are doing something right.

Nice pics and plants Dave! This time of year can be just as colorful as any, when you have camellias! I have lots of color from: Kanjiro, Apple Blossom, Snow Flurry, October Affair, Sparkling Burgundy, Tanya, Star Above Star, Shishigashira, Yuletide, two unknown pinks and an unknown white sasanqua. Everybody that can should try at least one, somewhere in the garden.
