_Camellia japonica_ 'Spring's Promise'

It is the first week of November, and a cool, drizzly day. Early this morning, I noticed the first bloom in the top of our 'Spring's Promise' japonica, with several surrounding buds on the verge of opening. This plant has been in the ground three or four years, and is just beginning to be old enough to bloom well. It has grown rapidly and is well over head high--six feet tall or more. In Zone 7b, I believe 'Spring's Promise' will be an early bloomer rather than waiting to bloom during warms spells in the winter. It is attractive and a good landscape choice.
