Flower Blight, or Blast

| I have a variety of Cams growing in my garden, including some very large and old Japonicas. The latter all seem to be susceptible to the flower blight in which flowers turn brown and get soggy. There used to be a product called Zineb, which seemed to control the problem pretty well, but I gather that it was pulled off the market because of EPA concerns. Other than the standard advice to remove all infected flowers, pick up and discard all litter, etc. (which I try to do), is there any product still available that might help with the problem? Even if I am totally fastidious with the clean-up regimen, my neighbors also have Japonicas, and they are not, so the problem comes back the following season. Interestingly, my Reticulatas and Sassanquas seem to be more or less immune. |

| And thank goodness that zineb was pulled from the market....it was a highly toxic, dangerous chemical. Unfortunately, you should still be able to get products with mancozeb in it, still hazardous, but less acutely so. Read and follow all directions should you decide to use it on your flower blight disease. The last I looked, mancozeb products were being manufactured by several companies under their own trade names. It is not a registered product (the last I looked), so should be readily available at a good garden center or agricultural supply outlet. |
