Promise of Spring

This is pretty boring by 'Southern' standards, I suppose, but what I like about this camellia is it's propensity to bloom all winter long and especially in our colder zone. It just started blooming. Last year it started later -- around New Year's Day. SpringÂs Promise is one of the winter-hardy camellias bred by Dr. Clifford Parks for hardiness in Zone 6.

There are many places to purchase camellias in the greater DC area. For you, you could try Merrifield at the Fair Oaks location -- take Fairfax County Parkway South from I-66, go East on Rt 29. It will be about a half mile on your right.
