winter-killed Sasanqua Kanjiro Rose
My vigorous Kanjiro, planted in 1994 and now a 20-foot tree, was devastated in the winter of 2013-2014 by freezing and harsh winds. Few leaves appeared all this year, but I left the tree, watering it, in hope that it might still survive. Now, December 2014, the end of one mid-level side branch has burst into numerous blooms. There remain a half dozen places where green leaves have sprouted -- but the main trunk and branches are bare. My question: is there any way I might do something to save the plant?
I read online that established camellias have strong root systems, and that cutting them back to the ground will possible force new growth.
I am also well aware that the time to prune camellias is always after blooming (and seldom, unless needed).
Any hints, ideas will be most welcome.
