Going to get warm!

I got a ticket to go visit my parents in Florida! Whohoo! Warm feet - here I come... but not for a few weeks yet :-(

Last year when I was down, my mum was really tired - she was recovering from shingles. She's all excited and already making plans about where we're going to go! So this year I think I'm going to have to tie her down so she doesn't try to go overboard! She's 75 but you'd never know it to look at her. She looks young for her age, and she's not got anything wrong with her physically that's slowing her down much. So

she's been wanting for me to go to Selby Gardens with her and give her some plant lessons! She's really starting to get into plants now. She's always had a garden, but she was never obsessed about it like I am :-) Her mother was a plant nut too. The ony problem is that I don't know all that much about tropicals - I know a fair bit about some of them, but most of them are not something I can ever grow. Oh well - I always like to learn more about plants, and I love Selby Gardens :-)

I am so looking forward to not having to wear three pairs of socks in my slippers and two sweaters over my shirt! I hate being cold!!

I'll have to teach DH how to give the daily injections to Ham, my sick kitty - he's terrified of poking the wrong thing :-) Poor Ham has needed such constant care that I haven't been away for more than a day or two in almost a year! Yikes!

Oh Bonnie lucky you! Did you get any shaking from that earthquake yesterday? M

I didn't notice that one, but I was asleep at the time it happened, so i might have slept through it. It looks like it was a bit further away than most of the ones I have felt before, so even if I was awake, I might not have noticed anything.

I've felt quite a few over the years though. One was strong enough to rattle some glasses and wake me up. It also knocked a couple of pictures off of straight.

The minor earthquakes we get beats hurricanes anyday though!!! Heck - I'd even rather live through a big ice storm every year than have to live through one of those storms!

Oh Bonnie .. your so lucky. I wish my mom still had her place in Arizona I would be there in a heart beat.

DH will do just fine with Ham :o) I can imagine how nervous he will be doing it all by himself for the first time. Poor Ham lol. If he is anything like Taz he wont be any problem for you hubby.

It's good that you can get away and share some good times with your mom ... Shelby Gardens looks amazing!!!

Have fun and bring back a bucket of sunshine when you return.

Overall, I'm not too keen on the fact that my parents moved to Florida, but it is so nice to go down when I get the freezing winter Blahs. I'd still be happy to visit if they were still in Nova Scotia, but NS in the winter isn't nearly as warm as Florida :-)

I leave on the 7th of February, so I've got a few more weeks of freezing feet to get through first. I am finding that the time is just zipping by recently, so it should be time to pack my bags before I know it - not that I pack much! I actually pack a smallish suitcase and then pack that into a bigger one. Clothes, shoes, bedding and all kinds of stuff I need and use are soo cheap there that I usually wind up wishing I'd brought a third bag! Outlet malls and stores like Winners are everywhere, and my mum is a shopaholic :-)

I'm hoping to grab a few small ferns to bring back with me from the Selby Gardens store - they always have quite a few, but they're not cheap, so I'll have to see what the budget can afford. Not that I have anywhere to put them. I really don't know why I'm even thinking about it, other than the fact that I can't get them here... But I'm "just going to look" anyway!

I'm sure DH will do fine with Ham - I think Ham won't even notice since he's so good about it with me. But poor DH - he's saying things like "What if I stab him in the lungs?"!!! Heh :-) I told him Ham would let him know! He is getting an idea now though. I've been having him feel the skin tent every night, and I think he's now pretty sure that Ham's lungs are nowhere near the stick siite ;-) I will have him do it by himself a few times before I go, just so he's more confident. At least he knows how to pill a cat!

Ah.......lucky duck! Visions of last year, soaking my toes in the warm sand for 5 weeks in Florida - actually spent as much time in the sun as I did at the seed racks brimming full of the 10 and 25 cent seed packets at Walmart/Walgreens/BigLots.......no such luck/trip this year......have a terrifically wonderful time.
