Can anyone tell me when the best time to start my dahlia tubers for spring planting is? I usually start my cannas by the end of Feb. Is that a good time to start my dahlia? I just checked what I had in the garage, the garage never freezes, and nothing has sprouted yet. This is my first attempt at growing them. I only bought 1 to try and it did fairly well for me so I plan to buy more. Thanks marg

If you can wait till March, I would suggest it. I find that plants started in Feb. can get pretty leggy because of light issues (specifically the lack of sunlight).

Thanks Ianna. The plants getting long and leggy was one of my concerns to. We're moving in May so if I planted them in March, they should probably be big enough to plant out when we get there, right? I don't think that planting them directly is an option. Marg

That should work out fine. Just make sure you have consistent warm weather before planting these outdoor.
