Many Seedy Saturday events donate their proceeds to Seeds of Diversity Canada (www.seeds.ca), a very worthy not-for-profit organization. One of SoDC's mandates is to promote seed saving, which helps preserve biodiversity in food plants and slows the rate at which heritage and locally adapted varieties are lost due to consolidation and centralization of globalized seed corporations.
