At times old mother nature can do a number on you, even if your daff's aren't great this year, next year is a new beginning. A few years ago I just about lost a mature Wisteria to a wacky winter.
The temperature got up into the 70's in December and the buds started to swell, then right into a freeze we went. Needless to say not only the buds froze but the dieback was substantial. I thought I had lost it for good, but it did come back, it was July before I saw signs of life though. Good old B.C. winters, We never know what we are going to get here.

Dried and shriveled? It's quite possible you've lost this year's bloom :-(. Time will tell for sure.

But there is a bit of a silver lining - since the bulb won't be putting all that energy into the flower this year, it might have an outstanding year next year, or it might divide into two big bulbs.

I've clearly lost a couple of Allium flowers - they sprouted and got chomped by the squirrels. I buried the rest of them under some wood shavings and I'm hoping that is enough to save them. Right now they've also got 20-30 cm of snow on them, but when the temps first got cold, there was no snow cover.

i've been out since i posted this.. just wanted to see if just some had turned brown or all.. i think its just a couple of clumps.. i've never had this happen before..thnx for responding..i usually have a fairly descent spring show..

Youi have a lovely garden, thorn grower. I've noted that on several of your postings. Well done.

As for the daff's, I guess we are all in the same boat here in southern Ontario. The ice that accompanied the storm we had yesterday, has brought several nice branches down from some of my flowering plants, not to mention the cedar bush behind me. But, as my mother-in-law says frequently, "what can one do?".
