Daffodil shoots are barely visible right against the house here.

And here in Richmond I saw the first of my Daffodils open up yesterday, Xaroline! The Snowdrops are setting seed, the small Iris reticulata are finished blooming, while Crocus provide the annual sea of purple, along with the Primulas. While the calendar doesn't say so as yet, it sure's starting to look like spring around here. And I saw the first flowers on a Dicentra spectabilis last week, and that's early!

This isn't a flower count; it's an opportunity to brag. :)

I visited Vancouver one Easter, after I started my spring garden. The flowers were wonderful and caused just a twinge of envy. However, it had been raining for months and still was. No one was planting spring gardens without a way to keep them dry.

Yep, I's-a-braggin', ain't no doubt... We do have a much longer growing season out in Canada's banana belt, but it never gets that hot, so growing things like tomatoes for instance requires special attention to ensure as much heat as possible be available to those plants to maximize the fruit harvest.

And yes, it can be damp this time of year. But that's precisely what keeps thing green around here. It's been unseasonably warm here though, courtesy of El Nino. Seems to me I heard from someone this is the warmest winter in a hundred years apparently. Heck, we've already done the first cut of the front lawn!

I was noticing that the snow is retreating (still 2 feet deep). Along the foundation on the south side the snow is gone and tulips have started sprouting. We still have some cold nights to get through before they bloom a month or two from now.

So what was the final flower count?
