Sweetgum trees

Hey everyone:

I was just wondering what the best variety of sweetgum is for cold hardiness? I have found one called grant's seedless that has withstood zone 3b and northern sweetgum which is supposed to be good to 4a. Does anyone have any experience with these trees in cold areas? And can anyone point me to a place that may sell me seeds to Canada? Thanks.

Sweet Gum (Liquidamber Styraciflua) Grant's Seedless is recorded hardy to -25F ie USDA zone 4b, not zone 3b.

It was found in 1983 in a Illinois yard. But it's seedless, meaning you can't find seeds to this tree. Propagation is only by cuttings.

Check your local nursery. Use the botanical name and the variety name so there is no confusion. Most nurseries have their tree sources and could order it in for you!

This article says it took -31F. Thank you for the advice though. My yard has never seen below zone 4 since I've lived there so hopefully that helps. I'm gonna talk to nurseries in my area this spring.
