Any raised bed (containers) potato growers?

Good day,

I am looking for gardeners that have used this method.

Please tell me how long the top-up process goes on for, I assume I add dirt until the plant dies down for the season?

I am planning my veggie garden and want to grow potatoes in a barrel-raised bed style.

This is the method where you continually "top-up" your planted potatoes with soil as the season progresses to get abundant yields from the excess root growth that is forced by this process.

Hi Justine,

I've not grown potatoes this way but the methodology is very sound. I do plan to utilize the technique using a 5 gallon container.

As I undertand the technique, you are supposed to set your barrel where it will receive full and overhead sunlight. The potato seedling is set in the middle and the lowest part of the barrel. As it grows taller, you need to do a little top up and you stop when the plant reaches the top of the barrel. By then the roots have reached the length of the barrel. When the cold season comes along the plant will start yellowing up and it's about the time you do your harvest.
