Help - Overgrown Fruitless Mulberry

I have a couple of fruitless Mulberry trees which I assume have not been pruned in at least 3-5 years. Above the main trunk, they are a maze of intertwined dead and live branches.

I have seen other gardeners prune younger Mulberry trees drastically down to the top of their main trunk, but I am nervous about damaging such a tall (10-12 ft) tree, which I am told is about 12 years old.

Any thoughts on how I can go about pruning this tree so that it stays healthy?

I had one around the 8 feet.. It produced berries every year, but i just hated it..So for about two years i did exactly as you said.I pruned it back and made more of an ornamental shrub out of it..It loved it. i had to prune it aleast twice each season to keep its shape..It still produced berries..I've since cut it down all together to make way for a fence down the side of my property..It still sends up suckers every year....I don't think you'll hurt it by trying..They eventually grow into a rather large tree..
