I planted daffodils for the first time last year. They are poking up through the puddles! Unfortunately, those puddles have become ice. I'm guessing I won't be seeing any flowers from them this year. . I forgot it was a low spot when I planted them.

Yes, most bulbs, including daffodils like a well-drained area. Many of mine are on my backyard hill, but I have others on level ground. Not many bulbs can survive a low, wet area. Better to use a low area for perennials that actually like to have their feet damp such as siberian iris, iris versicolor (native), physostegia (obedient plant), chelone (turtlehead), etc. Camassia is one bulb that likes a moist area, as do some of the native lilies.
