Gardening Hills

cookie8

This year I have a designated spot for melons/pumpkins. All the packets of seed say to plant in hills. It sounds simple enough but just to be sure - I just pile up my dirt every 5-6 feet apart and then plant 5-6 seeds per hill. Okay, now how big do I make these hills? I am determined to grow canteloupe and watermelon, local farmers can do it in mass planting, it has to work, right? I guess I am successfully advertising that neither have worked for me in the past. This year I have a lot more sun in my new yard and not quite ready to give. Thanks for any help.
