I am thinking about planting these as a hedge (to replace a horrible existing hedge) between our yard and our neighbour's. There are lots of mature trees around, but a respectable level of morning and afternoon dappled sunlight.

We saw the Bailey's compact shrubs in 5-gallon pots at a nursery and a seemingly very knowledgeable employee recommended them highly as a hedge, because of compact size (we want a low hedge) and not being disease-prone (especially powdery mildew). We were particularly attracted by the red tips of the new foliage as well as the prospect of fall colour.

I have been calling various nurseries for prices and getting opinions that conflict with what we were told at the first place. Some have said it isn't "trimmable" and also have said that it will be pure green--no red tips--unless in full sun.

Opinions?
