Hi, can anyone tell me if there is a large common bush that you know of that has green/burgundy leaves and thorns? Apparently this bush gets a red berry on it? A friend of mine moved in to a place with a few of these in the yard and wanted me to id them. Thank you.

Sounds like a Solanum of some sort. Got a pic?

Berberis thunbergii?? aka Barberry.

You might want to do more Google'ing for a specific cultivar.
