Gabriella, Does it look like tiny hairs? I have the same problem and it looks like it is caused by having too much compost (which is still composting) and because the bed was too wet. The area has been receiving water from my neighbor's yard. He'd done something that now has the runoffs coming out into this bed and so frequently the bed has been soggy. I still have to address the problem but I'm confident that as soon as I've fixed the wetness issue and perhaps lessened teh amount of compost, the problem would resolve itself.

Ianna, I did not notice hairs, but did note that the plants do not like it.

I guess it doesn't matter what kind of fungus. Can you describe the bed - is it dry or wet? Can you describe the soil composition? Have you added any compost lately? Can you change the soil?

My new bed was invaded by fungus simply because as I mentioned it was damp. Second since this was a new bed, I had to destroy the grass sod by topping it with wet newspapers, and adding new topsoil and loads of compost. -- Everything that a compost heap fungus would love. It is also located in a part shade area. So point is - this are the conditions that allow fungus to thrive. Not good for emerging seeds.

You can apply fungicides but I doubt it will solve the problem. You can try to remove the soil but that's a rather huge task, if not expensive. The alternative is to address the source of the dampness to make it less damp and to balance out the soil composition. Perhaps adding shrubs to help 'dry out the bed'.

Ianna; Mostly the moisture this bed got was from spring thaw and rain. I have only watered once to put sweet pea seeds in and then again when I planted some annuals. The bed soil is fairly friable among some of the best I have seen.The shade is pretty deep until about 2:00 P.M. It is not overly wet.
