Japanese Irises

I think what I have are Japanese irises (white and purple). And I have way too many of them. Eventually, I'd like to thin them out and relocate some of them. When is a good time to do this? Right after they've finished flowering or later, i.e., August, September? Any suggestions.

Try doing it in late August and in Sept. when the weather is less harsh. I think right now is still good since the weather is still not too oppressive yet. If you wish to proceed, do so early in the morning or later in the evening. Water well before tackling the plant.
