hardy hibiscus in purple

Hi,

A few years ago my Hibiscus syriacus Blue Bird (also known as a rose of sharon) died. Now, here in the Ottawa area it was technically out of it's zone but over the outlet of the septic tank it did nicely for about 7 years and reached over 6 feet. (About 5 others died, this was the only one that lived.)

Since then I've tried babies of Blue Bird that I've received from relatives in southern ontario, but they have a hard time making it through the winter, and only seem to leaf out at ground level.

Does anyone have a single hibiscus in a purply colour that grows at least 5 feet in our zone 5? What variety is it? I've heard that blue satin is rather nice, possibly hardy, but seeds are not true to colour. I wouldn't mind trying seeds from it (or other bluish singles that are hardy) though if someone has seeds they are willing to share for a Self addressed stamped envelope.

Thanks,

Mary
