Gardening woes

Hello all. I seem to have quite a bit of trouble with all my plants. So it is either my soil, or my green thumb is really black underneath!

My hollyhocks are not blooming. This is their second year, and they are growing like a weed, but no flowers at all.

My snowball bush (not a hydrangea, but a flowering type of viburnum) didn't flower (this is it's second year as well).

My raspberry bushes are growing, but only slightly, and I have no fruit on them (but it is early in the season yet). I am not a big fertilizer/pesticide/unorganic type of gardener, so I try to avoid anything chemical. I know my soil is very full if clay so I have added compost, peat moss, and some top soil to the plants as I planted them last year. Any ideas?? Oh! BTW, I live in Calgary.
