My butterfly bush (2 of them) are growing well although no flowers yet. Is yours just showing twigs? I normally cut mine down to the ground each fall and new growth comes from the base.

This bush will die back to the ground each winter and then spout new from the ground. Mine are 2 feet tall.

If there is no growth it is gone. these bushes do not last very long in our climate. Expect it to die every 3 years or so. However, it will seed fairly freely and it is easy to take cuttings and grow new bushes (from ones that are alive).
