My marigolds have different blossoms on each stem

This is my first posting and I hope I'm in the right place, but I have a question about my marigolds. I purchased the plants from a home gardener at a garage sale, and they have grown beautifully. The odd thing is that each plant has several different types of blooms on it. There are doubles, singles, various colours. All on one plant!

I've never seen this before, and wonder whether this odd thing is because someone has taken seeds from a hybrid? Could this peculiarity breed true?

I hope someone can educate me on this. I have photos but am not sure how to upload them.
