Well here we go, Aug 5th and last night we got our first frost. The frost didn't do any permanent damage but still it's the beginning of August for goodness sake and the tips of all of my tomato plants all 300 of them are black and shriveled. Whoda thunk it?

Let me guess - you live in Alberta!

Ten years ago, on August 3, 2002, Red Deer got 8 cm of snow.

I'm glad I don't live there...although Saskatoon is pretty fickle as well. In the summer of 2004, we had frosts on June 26, July 31 and August 20.

Whoops sorry, forgot to mention my region, and that is Southern Manitoba right on the US border. The Weather (it's true or not) channel said that the overnight temps only went down to +12c but my tomatoes are still black, go figure.

Hmmm...well, last Sunday here in Saskatoon, the official low was +5C but my yard went down to +2C! Nothing got frosted but it's amazing how cold it can get in local grass areas when it's calm.

You can protect them with a frost cover --hope its not too expensive to do.
