I had some orchids and other plants outdoors for the summer. They quickly turned into summer houses for earwigs (esp. the orchids), sow bugs, a centipede or two, some tiny snails, and ants. Does anyone have any suggestions for something to douse them with to drive away (or 'get rid of') these visitors who are unwanted in the house before I bring the plants in? Will Safer's do the trick?

Safers is a particularly strong insecticide. I use pyrethium based ones because the toxicity disappears after a day or so. An easy way to completely be sure that all insects are gone is to enclose the plants in a plastic covered area (I use extra large garbage bags) and spray the plants completely. The bugs have no way of escaping and. In larger plant speciments like for example my 5 foot -3 ball bay topiary, I cut up large garbage bags and enclose the balls with these things, securing with packing tape. Works wonders.
