Nicole, when I lived in Saskatoon, I grew one in a sheltered corner, it was beautiful, but then died after 15 years (harsh winter). It did send out suckers, but those were easy to prune off, it also self-seeded like crazy, but also easy to pluck out before they get too big.

Go buy one right now, you got the space in your garden, so go for it ;)

I've been looking at other Sumacs in the Halifax area and most seem controlled/controllable. So I did buy one - you knew I was going to, eh? - and it was planted on Sunday where it's glory will be seen in the fall. It's already turning a nice bright orange!

Didn't know about the seeding. I'll have to watch out for that since it's at the top of a slope above a perennial bed. Thanks for the 'heads-up'!
