Campsis is a beautiful vine! You're right in that it looks exotic and tropical :-) And you probably have seen it growing in Florida - I see it everywhere on the Gulf Coast. It is quite aggressive there, but it's only marginally hardy here. You should be fine - it is a much slower grower in Canada.

It's supposed to be an easy plant to grow from cuttings, but I've never tried it. I have a Campsis grandiflora that I grew from a seed and it's only gotten large enough this year that I might consider taking a cutting next year.

It is a bit late for a cutting, but I'd try it anyway. If it works, great, if not, take another one next spring. BTW - my Campsis is *very* late to wake up in the spring. I can't remember exactly when it started showing signs of life, but it was the last plant in my garden to do so. I knew it was alive because I could pop it out of the pot and check the roots. So if your cutting looks dead at the start of June, give it some more time (but take another cutting if you can, just in case).

It is such a beautiful plant. There's one in Halifax in the middle of the city along a fence bordering a homeowner's property. This thing is amazing! At 15 feet in full bloom folks stop to see it and the owner is always asked what it is. To stop from being interrupted all the time, he put up a sign telling people what it is. :O) I've tried to grow it several times but my north winds are just too harsh for it.

I have taken six cuttings and am hopefully that one or two will take. Put them in a sheltered spot and it has been raining often, since I planted the cuttings.
I am not going to touch them, until late spring, following what you have written.

If nothing happens I will start some from the abandoned plant growing that I recently came across
