There was a white coating on all the plants this morning.

It is slowly going away.

This is Calgary. We did have two extra weeks of frost free weather before this episode of winter.
The geraniums are in , but still need to dig tubers.

It has turned into rain country here. Showers or rain storms every day for nine days. The forecast every day this week is for more rain. The sun sometimes peeks out, long enough to remind us of its existence, but not long enough to warm or brighten the grey, grey skies.
There is very little I am able to do outside until the rain stops. It's too wet to get into any garden. Too wet to transplant, too wet to dig. Too wet to cut or haul our winter's wood.
Many of the leaves have already fallen from the trees before bothering to change colour.
I'm hoping for some sun. There is so much to do, and I'm not ready to come inside yet.

Here on Vancouver Island we are still having warm days (19-20) but the evenings are cool so I'm starting to bring in the tender stuff. I think if not it is close to our driest summer on record. Tomatoes are still producing which is really nice, it's been a few years since we've had tomatoes ripen on the vine. I'm having to water almost every day the soil is so dry, we could do with a good downpour.

Had a touch of frost but most things are okay
Rain as well but we needed it.
The lawn was rather dry and flower beds under trees for sure where very dry.
But for sure we have lots of outside work to do.

I would like to have more vegetables next year in the garden
Seems one gets just another and then another flower to try.

I actually put Rhubarb and strawberries into my new garden bed, right out along the sidewalk of my house.

I am thinking to put some tomato plants in there next year as well
Maybe people will pick them when walking by. I wouldn't mind if they do as one can easily plant lots of tomatoes.
Only thing, that someone suggested, is that kids might pick them and throw them around. That would not be good for sure.

Here in Winnipeg we had two relative minor frosts, in fact my impatiens and begonias were still untouched. Then, last night, killer -5 C frost. To add insult to injury, it's now snowing, ever so lightly, on my frost killed plants. Good thing I brought my tender tropicals in last week. Still trying to 'organize' them and find room in the house, however.

Here in Kamloops we've had the first freeze of the year (Friday night and !surprise! last night too). The birdbaths are frozen over and all the leaves are brown, but the sky's not gray - sunny and chilly (well, at least for this transplanted San Diegan) but not cold.

Odd, certain of the Echinacea have never looked better, but I still don't know much about perennials. Some other plants are still blooming, but it's the start of the end, or the end, of foliage for most of the garden and the beginning of a holiday, at least for the outside plants, for me from watering.

I've been already scheming about Spring 2010. I guess it isn't too early, eh?

Never too early! I'm also thinking up things and writing notes to myself. :)

More snow--this time it is soggy wet stuff bending the ash tree all out of shape.
It should go by this afternoon.

Thinking about spring? A good resource is at:
