What is it that you are trying to root? Has anything ever survived for you? Do you leave them in the water all winter or just until they are rooted enough to pot up?
Right now I have three jars with cutting of different foliage plants and two of them are full of roots. The third one has cuttings that were taken on Monday so they haven't rooted yet.
I have found that if I leave them too long, they will get so root tangled and water logged that they can start to rot. They do benefit from the natural nutrients in the soil so potting them up asap is probably good, just no fertilizer at this time of year. I usually start to fertilize with very weak solution in about March.
Have you tried potting up the whole plant(root and all) and bringing it in? I have impatients and other things in pots that I plan to bring in and overwinter in a semi dormant state, in a cooler room with minimal water etc. I am going to try to overwinter a big pot of gorgeous double petunias this winter. I was told to cut them back and bring them in and so I am hoping that it will work. :)
