Have to agree with Ianna on this one. Coupled with the fact that we are receiving one month's worth of rain this weekend and will start going into our maritime freeze-thaw-freeze-thaw winter, those roots are not going to have time to establish themselves properly to combat those cycles and survive.

1) I doubt they are selling bareroot cuttings. They probably have barerooted plants to make mailing easier.
2) As long as the plants have been treated properly ie have not dried out and were dug in late fall, they will probably grow just fine.
3) I have seen some of the bare rooted plants from Veseys, and they are no bargain. A $7 plant which can be picked up locally for $3 in the spring.
4) If you get plants very late in the fall, just dig them in a bit deeper, and uncover them very early in spring. Or plant them up and place them somewhere warmer like a garage for a month or so. At this time of year the plants are not doing much and the cold won't hurt them. Think of it this way - if you had bought the plant a few months earlier, all it might have done was make a few roots. A few roots will not help it be more cold hardy.
