Fall rhodo for ID

This small rhodo does not grow in summer. It only seems to like spring & fall when it flowers. It does not flower in winter like some other pink rhodos. The nice thing about rhodos is that you can flood them all winter and they stay green preventing you from needing to find flowering plants come spring. And there's no out of control growth.

I've burned a Rhodo Rex so help would be appreciated to find another specimen on the coast. I promise not to let it burn fingers crossed.

Here is a link that might be useful: Fall Rhodo for ID

RE: Fall rhodo for ID

Hi den vic,
I have collected quite a selection of Rhodo's over the years and purchase them from different growers on Vancouver Island.
There is a fellow in Victoria that grows Rhodo's and has quite a selection.
I am not sure if it is right to post his name over the web-site. Are you familiar how this works, I am new to this particular web-site?

Yes you can

Hello rcharles

I sound like the US president on TV. lol If the rhodo grower has a business that's ok (3rd party). But if I had a business, I could not post about it as it would be spam. If the grower does it as a hobby then you should hold back unless you know he wants the general public or specific enthusiasts to visit. Thanks.

RE: Fall rhodo for ID

Hi den vic,
Firwood Nursery (N. Todd), has been a member of the Victoria Rhododendron Society for many years. He is extremely knowledgeable and would help you find one if he did not have one himself.
My R.Rex is about 8 ft. high now and blooms every year.
Hope this helps

Did get his rhodos

Thanks rcharles.

I got his favorite type of winter rhodo that likes to flower in moist & cool conditions. A purple tree rhodo and a red-leaf (new ones) variety. I do have an image of an old R. rex in Vancouver. I will post it once I find the image. I find that R. rex and R. sino grande are the most exotic specimens on the coast. It's too bad that they are not common like so many other rhodo specimens.
