Right or wrong here is what works for me.

I leave the pods on the plants when I bring them in. When they begin to turn yellow and start feeling a bit mushy I squish out the seeds on a coffee filter or paper plate and plant them in a pot with bottom heat, keeping just moist like any other seed. Light appears to help the germination process. If the room I am trying to germinate them in is warm I don't use bottom heat. I've also cut the pods off and allowed them to dry until they turn brown and then remove the seeds. They never really get bone dry like other seeds I have experience with but they do germinate well. Since they don't come true it is always exciting to see what I end up with. Sounds like you have a good size pod and you will probably be able to gain a lot of seeds from it.

I will be out of the country end of this month til spring so I might take your advise and just leave the pods on the plants and not cut them back The plants are going to be kept in a fairly cold room with natural sun light, over winter..
I know they can take some cold out in nature so that is what I will do just leave them be as in nature except they won't get rain.
