Hi Cookie, evergreens is an umbrella description for all plants that remain green all year long. So that covers pines, firs, spruce, yews, boxwood, hollies, euonymous (semi evergreen)- to name a few.

So perhaps what you are searching is something like boxwood which is an evergreen but certainly not a pine or a fir.
