MG: Callistemon pallidus (Lemon Bottlebrush)

Someone sent me these images of this interesting bottlebrush in Ganges, Salt Spring Island. I've only noticed the red ones in Victoria. I did see this type of tree in south Australia. And I prefer the lemon coloured callistemons.

RE: MG: Callistemon pallidus (Lemon Bottlebrush)

Hi Den:

Wow, that is a nice shrub. It must be very protected as it is rated as a zone 9 plant. I doubt it would survive in my yard. My red one croaked last year with all the snow we received.

I understand (but have never seen one) there is supposed to be a green flowering Callistemon. Maybe it is time to move to a warmer zone ;-)

Cheers,
MG

It was bare in the cold

MG, this Callistemon lost a branch in the cold spell due to snow. Other than that it was fine. I noticed that some red specimens were lost last winter in Greater Vic but maybe they are of different types. I notice that Oak Bay, Esquimalt and James Bay are more prone to keep their tender stuff in freezes.

Last year was a test of cold and maybe this year is a test in drowning rain!?

Keep dry
