So it's no longer a myth with photos streaming the Internet. Here's a photo (you can navigate the album) of a palm garden on Saltspring Island, BC. I've seen amazing gardens on Saltspring. From palms with seeds to kiwi vines. Amazing area but expensive as the word is out that the climate is moderate and that it's beautiful.

Did you know that Saltspring was an inexpensive place not that long ago. Several of my hippy type friends bought property there in the 70's dirt cheap. Most are still there in their modest housing surrounded by million dollar estates. Bit of irony there.;-)

I've heard of hippies being forced out because of high costs but some have good money in real estate. Saltspring is another gem in your province. It's amazing that it was so low profile and then it made real estate headlines as rich folks from southern Ontario and the US move there. People on Saltspring are still gardening while folks in southern Ontario are getting killer frosts and snow.

Saltspring has two palm growing nurseries, a Puzzle tree farm so to speak and a bamboo nursery as well. I'm so glad that I have decided to try out your coast instead of the east coast. You can't imagine how your climate is so much more comfortable. BTW, I'll be planting Winter jasmine. I've also planted large, evergreen sword ferns recsued from a logging road. These big ferns look great under palms. Even your native stuff can be exotic.
