I've tasted saskatoon berries in jelly form and I'd say it tastes different from blue berries. I've not tasted the fresh berries though. HOwever I have a service berry in which family the saskatoon berries belong to. It's okay tasting I suppose but I won't be hankering for them. For more information please refer to this site.

Hi there brandond.... I liked your question about saskatoons... if I had to compare I would say they are not quite the same. Blueberries have a very delicate flavor I almost think a cool flavor when I have eaten them, they make me think blue... they are very soft. Having had saskatoons fresh picked on the side of the road, in jellies, jams, in rhubarb crisp/squares/crumbles, in pancakes, in pancake syrup, muffins and so on (my mum was the wickedly awesome cook), I would say that they are absolutely fabulous.... they are sweet, soft, juicy (I remember my fingers, hands and mouth getting stained purple as a child), very versatile, and definitely worth growing. The seeds are not a small as the seeds in blueberries, but not a major deterrent from growing. In fact I am going to be winter sowing some this year for new season...
