Canna of Not?

I was told in the name that plant forum that this is a canna indica, or indian shot. The friend that gave me this start said it was growing in her yard in Mississippi and a local nursery thought it to be related to the ginger family. Thanks

don't know if it's a canna or not-
my guess would be not.

Here's a photo of my canna indica:
Your plant may be in full flower by now, & you can compare.

I think all canna leaves emerge all along the stalk, & they have short bloomstalks.

Your photo looks like the leaves all emerge near the bottom, & there's a long bloom stalk.

Also, your leaves seem longer than canna leaves.

RE: Canna of Not?

I am reasonably sure that your plant is a canna. Unfortunately the name C. indica seems to be used or misused to fit many catch-all canna photos. C. indica comprises a very wide range of not only a distinct specie within the canna family but also a number of related cultivars that have their origin with this particular group. The term Indian-shot plant is a little like identifying a particular variety of apple tree as a fruit tree.
You likely are growing a hybrid canna cultivar. I am unable to give you a name for your particular plant. Regards, Kent
