Help with growing from seed please

Three days ago, in order to satisfy my urge to grow something, I decided that I would plant three seeds that I had collected from a neighbour's canna (my cannas hadn't flowered last year). I nicked them and soaked them and then planted them in the same pot. This morning I have six sprouts. The one sprout has signs that little leaves are forming, but the other "sprouts" are just bare shoots.
My question is: are these shoots actually roots that seem to be going in the wrong direction? I didn't plant the seeds very deep, and I can see some finer roots beside the shoots, so I covered them a bit better.
Any help is greatly appreciated! |

| Seeds are pretty smart, they know which way is up. Just give them a couple of days and they'll green up. Good luck with your new cannas! Jeanne |

Thanks Jeanne. Things seem to be straightening out. I added a bit more soil to cover the fine roots that were showing. Two of the shoots are now unfurling and looking like canna leaves. The other shoot is still very tiny. The one shoot that did look like it had leaves starting on the top (very unlike a canna leaf) has been removed. I am not sure what it was but no matter.....I just want cannas in the pot! LOL Lois |
