Does anyone know anything about this cultivar? I saw some at OSH yesterday. From the pic, it looks like a shorter version of 'Tropicana'. Nothing comes up when I Google this name.
Well if it looks like ÂTropicanna it will likely be ÂTropicanna by another name. Likely illegal in the United States, since it still has trademark and patent rights in effect. Regards, Kent
I just picked that one up today at OSH. I have never grown Canna's but the picture looked just like the Tropicanna's I see at the Nurseries(but maybe not as large). Couldn't pass up the price.
I have grown many thousands of ÂTropicanna in field production and have rarely seen the mature Âfoliage height exceed three to four feet in our growing area. I do not mean to imply that under other conditions ÂTropicanna cannot grow taller but the environment ultimately determines a Âhealthy plantÂs ability to reach a minimum or maximum height. One can easily use a growth retardant or plant hormone to alter plant size or characteristic for many purposes including photo sessions or promotional sales displays. The Anthony Tesselaar marketing promotion for ÂTropicanna states total growing height of 4-6 feet tall. That would include the added 1 to 1.5 feet of bloom extension. The bottom line is do you want a plant that apparently looks like Tropicanna and likely is, or do you already have one and want another listed by some other name? Regards, Kent.
