Growing Canna in the shade in a container in Northern CA

We have a need of tall plant. Unfortunately, the balcony patio has a roof and faces Northeast and is facing some evergreen tree, so the area gets only dapple shade. We like to get a tall plant on the edge of the balcony. A canna comes to mind. However, most canna are full sun.

I did find a canna stuttgart that may work in the shade, but various post indicate it was very difficult to grow Any suggestions?

In my experience, Canna do fine in varying degrees of shade. They don't always flower as profusely, but I haven't personally seen them stunted or suffering in shade.

Mileage may vary, and others might say differently.
