Yes, slugs.

Might be leaf rollers... Lots of mine (which are also just starting to come back - with a vengeance) have many holes in a straight line across the leaves - looks like they were shot by a machine gun!!!

I'm pretty sure leaf-rollers are causing that - and I'm planning to treat with BT. Hope it works!

IMQTPI. I had a canna growing in a pot last year that had holes just like you describe it too.

It only ever got that one line of holes, and I never noticed any bug on it. I didnt treat it.

So I will watch this space to see if anyone knows for sure what causes it.

May I
interject a necessary consideration when dealing with holes being produced in
canna leaves? There certainly are several pests that may produce somewhat
similar damage but it is important to recognize that many of these pests are restricted
to specific regions in the US or other parts of our world.

There is little
likelihood that either of the above will be of importance in much of our
western or northern states in the US. The same holds true for most of the
European countries. The leaf roller is primarily restricted to the Southeastern
and Gulf States in the US and possibly the temperate regions of Central
America.

Slugs, brown
snails and grasshoppers can at times be a problem in areas where they exist. One’s
location often helps pinpoint the pest.

In my area, Denmark /Scandinavia, we are blessed (?) with the Iberian Snail, aka Spanish Slug.

- Some folks use the Trumpish description "Killer Snail".

I have a group of cannas, 3 x Queen Charlotte, which has been damaged by a pest.

So I bought a pack of slug-grain, containing 6 pct. Metaldehyde - banned in some countries.

Yesterday I spread 1 spoonfull around my 3 plants - and voila, this morning I found app 10 slugs
