My cannas which were first put in last summer are just starting to come back up but most of the leaves have holes. Could this be caused by slugs or snails? Everything that I have read about cannas has not mentioned that slugs could be a problem. Is it safe to use a snail and slug bait on these plants?

Yes, slugs.

Might be leaf rollers... Lots of mine (which are also just starting to come back - with a vengeance) have many holes in a straight line across the leaves - looks like they were shot by a machine gun!!! I'm pretty sure leaf-rollers are causing that - and I'm planning to treat with BT. Hope it works! -Nancy

IMQTPI. I had a canna growing in a pot last year that had holes just like you describe it too. It only ever got that one line of holes, and I never noticed any bug on it. I didnt treat it. So I will watch this space to see if anyone knows for sure what causes it. Take care,
