survive winter

Hi All, I am in zone 7 Tn...I have just bought some cannas bulbs which I plan to start soon and cant wait....I have never had cannas but I think they are so beautiful...my question is if planted deep enough, will they survive winters in Tn. It gets to about 20 at night for roughly a few weeks with some nights a bit colder...most of the winter its above freezing and we never get a solid freeze...The days are roughly around 40 for the coldest months..I plan to grow them in pots and then transplant when they are bigger...I am growing them in 3 gallon containers...thanks all for your help

Hi Steve,
well I'm a new canna grower, but I was just doing some research on canna and discovered that they should be hardy in Zone 7 and warmer.
Actually I'm in Zone 6, but I've seen cannas left out here and they re=appear, so I left mine in the ground, I'll see what happens.

Good luck, Ellenr. If I did that here, they would surely be mush in the spring.

Only plant them at about 3"-4". Then mulch them heavy in the winter.
